Aurorae

This show showcases the awe and majesty of the aurora and explores the science behind their origins. In March 2015, a team from the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan of Montreal travelled to Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, to spend many frigid nights filming no fewer than 179,000 images of the northern lights, in 360°. The crew had the perfect conditions to observe these shimmering waves of light, beneath a clear sky far from sources of light pollution. In these northern regions, the aurora borealis are visible 240 nights a year, on average.

For this all-new production by the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan, directors Philippe Baylaucq and Sébastien Gauthier have put together an original immersive show. Gauthier, in co-operation with Loïc Quesnel, set the images to music by DJ Champion to create an exceptional experience for audiences.

Big Astronomy

It takes many people with diverse backgrounds, talents, and skills to run a world-class observatory. Meet a few of these people as they share the wonder of the sky and the excitement of discovery. Explore the world-class observatories nestled in northern Chile's mountains and learn why Chile, with its beautiful mountain ranges and clear, cloudless skies create an ideal environment for studying the cosmos.

Laser DAFT PUNK

Our favourite robots may have self-destructed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t immerse ourselves in some of their greatest hits and bid a fond farewell. Over the course of their 28-year career, DAFT PUNK left their mark on every dance floor and music festival they ever played with the funkiest bass, silkiest melodies, and a literal spectacle of digital art.

Laser DAFT PUNK Includes such hits as Face to Face, Around the World and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

Legends of the Northern Sky

For thousands of years, humanity has gazed up at the stars in wonder, searching for truth, understanding, and insight.

With that infinite canvas spread out before us every night, it is no wonder the stars served as a foundation for exploring human nature, and a mechanism for looking back at ourselves.

Learn how the great bully, the giant bear Mista Maskwa, was finally tamed by a brave band of birds. This adventure is mapped in the stars as the birds chase Mista Maskwa every night, keeping us safe from his foul temperament.

The Indigenous people of North America connected with the night sky in fundamental ways that resonated with their world. In Legends of the Northern Sky, we learn and appreciate their stories in the stars and in turn, learn a little bit more about the spirit that connects us all.
