Come celebrate a day of learning at the Science Centre.

There will be drop-in activities throughout the building from 10:00a.m. to 2:30p.m.

Enjoy special presentations in the IMAX:

  • Weather Watch with Josh Classen (at 10:00 am)
  • Global Soundscapes (at 2:30pm)

 

Visit different galleries and learning spaces for exciting drop-in programming.

Engage in hands-on activities, such as building a harmonica and learning about soundwaves.

Your ticket gets you access to all drop in activities, both IMAX presentations and to our Feature Gallery, Dinosaurs: The Exhibition.

The effects of an asteroid impact could be catastrophic and while the current probability of an event in our lifetime is low, the potential consequences make the study of asteroids an incredibly important area of scientific research. Witness the latest in planetary defense and how science, ingenuity and determination combine to explore the world s most preventable natural disaster.

Beading and Coding (Ages 10-12)

What is an algorithm? What does it mean to write computer code? Can a computer mimic the natural world? Explore these questions and more as students create a beaded bracelet and learn how to find computer programming ideas in nature and culture. This program incorporates the use of a bead loom with pony beads to understand algorithms, patterns, designs, and sequences.

Build It (Ages 5-7)

Using a variety of materials and tools, learn how to find creative solutions to help a storybook character conquer construction challenges and obstacles. Learners will test ideas in real time.

Chilling Out (Ages 6-8)

In this chilling program., experiment with hot and cold chemical reactions, explore insulation, measure temperature, and make a very cool sweet treat using liquid nitrogen.

Cree Astronomy (Ages 9-11)

What is your relationship to the sky? Why is it important to understand the sky and how to use it? Using the sky as your roadmap, discover directions, how to tell time, and locate critical constellations. Learn about Cree constellation stories and uncover how the planets, sun and moon travel across one sky. Students will build their own constellation viewer, which they can take home to continue learning and discovering.

Lasting Impressions 3D

Lasting Impressions is a fully immersive 3D art and music experience that brings to life more than 100 of the world’s most famous French Impressionist masterworks. Audiences will experience the transformation of these masterpiece paintings as they come alive through cutting-edge 3D Motion Sculpting technology, inviting viewers to move into and through the canvas, thus fully inhabiting the worlds created by Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Renoir, Pissarro, Seurat, Gauguin, Manet, Cezanne and others. As the paintings leap off the giant screen in stunning stereoscopy, audiences will sit with Renoir’s luncheon guests, dance with Degas’ ballerinas, float over Monet’s water lilies and soar into Van Gogh’s Starry Night, while rediscovering the emotional power of art. More than a feast for the eyes, Lasting Impressions is a delight for the ears as well with the masterworks of Debussy, Ravel and other composers, as well as French standards by Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour and Nana Mouskouri, perfectly timed to the art as it comes to life on screen.

Little Coders (Ages 5-7)

No computer? No problem! Through play with hands-on games and activities, students will explore coding concepts without electronic devices. This computational thinking session will help provide the foundation for writing computer programs.

Make A Sound (Ages 7-8)

How does sound travel? How does the ear detect vibration? In this instrumental program, explore how sounds are created and changed through ears-on experiments and demonstrations.

Mission SPACE (Ages 10-12)

Ground control to Lunar Lander! Your mission: Discover the landing code and successfully land on the moon!

In this 45-minute program, students will explore the SPACE Gallery to complete challenges and puzzles and uncover the landing code they need to land on the moon. This student-driven gallery experience will give your students the opportunity to review the SPACE Unit in a fun, hands-on interaction with thee SPACE Gallery.

Robotics (Ages 10-12)

Step inside the Robotics Lab for a crash course on programming a Finch 2.0 robot! Students will be guided through challenges and exercises involving artificial intelligence.

Splendid Spectrum (Ages 7-8)

Students will participate in hands-on exploration with lenses and mirrors as they discover reflection, refraction, the movement of light, and more at the Science Centre.

 

The Trolley 2D

The Trolley propels giant screen audiences through the great cities of the globe to tell the story of one of civilization s most remarkable inventions. Step aboard the talented electric trolley for a ride across the eras and through thirty-nine cities and sixteen countries.

Thrill Rides (Ages 8-10)

Ever wonder how roller coasters do a loopty loop? What is kinetic energy? Learn the answers as you test your engineering skills to build your own model roller coaster!

Under the Sea 3D

Under the Sea takes you into fascinating underwater locales such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Triangle for face-to-face encounters with some of the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea.  This film offers a look into an underwater world few people have ever seen and the exquisitely beautiful, sometimes treacherous and often comical creatures that live there. The daily dramas of such characters as the flamboyant cuttlefish, leafy sea dragons and giant stingrays, are played out amongst some of the most exotic and isolated undersea locations on Earth. 

Narrated by Jim Carrey.
