Beading and Coding (Ages 8-10)

What is an algorithm? What does it mean to write computer code? Can a computer mimic the natural world? Explore these questions and more as students create a beaded bracelet and learn how to find computer programming ideas in nature and culture. This program incorporates the use of a bead loom with pony beads to understand algorithms, patterns, designs, and sequences.

Beaver as World Builder (Ages 6-9)

Learn about the Treaty 6 Territory and Métis Nation of Alberta and the important roles amisk (beavers) play in building the world around us. Explore the impact beavers have on the land as world builders and why they represent wisdom in the seven sacred teachings. Students will reflect through a journalling activity and practice important skills that build an appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature. Please note÷hen possible, this program will occur outside in the Medicine Garden.

Chilling Out (Ages 6-8)

In this chilling program., experiment with hot and cold chemical reactions, explore insulation, measure temperature, and make a very cool sweet treat using liquid nitrogen.

Hazmat Heroes (9-11)

Think you can navigate an emergency? Take on the role of a Dangerous Goods Emergency Response team and investigate a chemical spill accident. Test various "hazardous" substances to determine their physical and chemical properties.

Investigation Lab (Ages 10-12)

Students act as forensic scientists by analyzing fingerprints, ink chromatography, handwriting, fibers, tire tread patterns, and DNA evidence to help reveal the prime suspect. Evaluate all the evidence and guard against biases that can influence the reliability of their results. The game is afoot, can you find the prime suspect using the evidence provided?

Magnet Mysteries (Ages 9-10)

Someone is attempting to take over the Science Centre and the only way to stop them is with magnets! While exploring puzzles and solving clues, learners use their knowledge of magnets to stop the destruction of the Science Centre before it's too late!

Nature Explorers (Ages 10-14)

Explore the natural world! Students will enjoy a curriculum-based nature walk, journal their observations and learnings, spend time in the Nature Exchange identifying rocks, pinecones, seashells and other trinkets found in the great outdoors. Observe, wonder and reflect on Edmonton's rich natural spaces

Secrets of the Sea 3D

Prepare to meet some of the ocean's strangest & most spectacular creatures in Secrets of the Sea, a new film in IMAX! It's your turn to build with Brick & Bar: a Bricktastic (and Jurassic) evening for adults only! Brick and Bar includes:

  • The Jurassic World by Brickman Feature Exhibition: step through the iconic gates of the park and explore the universe of Jurassic World made entirely out of LEGO. Encounter models of your favourite dinosaurs (including triceratops, velociraptors, T. rex, and many more) alongside iconic props and sets from the movie.
